Nordic Walking Returns To Eagle Ridge Senior Health Fair

April 17, 2012

Nordic Walking with real Nordic Walking Poles

Nordic Walking will be one of the many activities and services available during the Annual Health Fair at Eagle Ride Retirement Community on Wednesday, April 18 in Traverse City, Michigan.

Nordic Walking Poles from WWW.SKIWALKING.COM and the American Nordic Walking System will be available to use during lessons and for test drive demo. These quality poles are sized to each individual’s height and are a sturdy one-piece design – no twist-locks or flip-locks that tend to rattle, vibrate, gradually collapse or unexpectedly fail. These one-piece poles from SWIX and EXEL prove to be safer, lighter and much more user-friendly than cheap/flimsy 2-piece and 3-piece collapsible poles from China.

Perfect length poles help us to automatically walk with a super straight back – better walking posture is biomechanically a good thing. This improved walking posture when combined with the unique 4-Wheel-Drive type action of walking with poles radically reduces the stress to the shins, knees, hips and back. Nordic Walking is low impact and yet provides a highly effective workout – burning more calories and working more muscle groups than regular walking.

Nordic Walking’s winning combination of improved posture, a unique 4-Wheel-Drive type action and shock absorbing benefits – helping many individuals to walk comfortably again. Nordic Walking Poles are helping individuals with balance issues, knee issues or new knees, hip issues or new hips, back issues (including those with rods in their back), weight issues, multiple sclerosis (MS), parkinson’s (PD), neuropathy, arthritis, bursitis, scoliosis, lumbar stenosis, fibromyalgia, post polio, osteoporosis, stroke recovery, cancer recovery and other limitations to walking. Nordic Walking poles are helping thousands of Americans get off the couch, successfully get outside, start walking safely and effectively launch much needed walking campaigns.

Nordic Walking Classes Return To Grand Traverse County’s Annual Employee Wellness Expo

July 30, 2010

Nordic Walking Classes will again be offered at the annual Grand Traverse County Employee Wellness Expo. Pete Edwards the owner/founder/coach of SKIWALKING.COM and the American Nodic Walking System will offer free Nordic Walking Lessons and free Nordic Walking Pole test-drives. The Wellness Expo will be held at the Traverse City Civic Center from 11:15 am to1:45 pm on Friday, August 20th.

Real Nordic Walking Poles will be provided – one-piece poles from SWIX and EXEL. Edwards has been coaching runners and skiers for over 25 years and knows for a fact that one-piece poles that are sized correctly prove to be safer, lighter and much more durable than cheap/flimsy twist-lock and flip-lock poles from China. Just go to REI’s website and check out all of the poor reviews for twist-lock and flip-lock poles. Most of these cheap/flimsy poles are made in China. Skiers don’t use cheap/flimsy twist-lock or flip-lock poles because they are inferior to one-piece poles that are sized correctly.

Edwards’ offers 16 different lengths of Real Nordic Walking Poles in lightweight and stable pairs. Edwards also can custom build user-friendly and quality poles for individuals over 6′ 7″. Edwards refuses to charge extra for custom built poles. And he refuses to falsely promote collapsible/telescoping poles over proven superior one-piece poles.

Edward’s also donates Real Nordic Walking Poles to Wounded Warrior Programs in the USA and Europe. Edwards has donated hundreds of pairs of his SWIX and EXEL Nordic Walking Poles to Wounded Warriors stationed at Walter Reed, Fort Lewis/Madigan/McChord, Fort Carson, Vicenza in Italy and Kaiserslautern Military Community in Germany.

Edwards is aware that twist-lock and flip-lock poles are sold under the false impression that they fit all sizes. That false claim makes cheap 2-piece and 3-piece poles an easy sell, but the quality of these poles is often terrible. Edwards is also aware that the customer satisfaction ratings for cheap/flimsy twist-lock and flip-lock poles are extremely low despite the hype about collapsible poles being able to fit all heights (false statement in that most collapsible poles do not extend tall enough for individuals over six feet).

Despite the hype that collapsible poles are supposedly better for travel is the simple fact that most two-piece poles don’t fit into most travel bags.

Despite the hype that collapsible poles are necessary for hilly terrain, another false statement, is the simple fact that one-piece poles are lighter and superior to cheap twist-lock and flip-lock poles. Check out this blog article that clarifies the truth about the best poles for use in hilly terrain: http://nordicsportsusa.blogspot.com

There is also a lot of hype about collapsible poles being better for travel – another typical false statement in that most 2-piece poles don’t fit into today’s travel bags. And 3-piece poles come equipped with two twist-locks or flip-locks and prove to be twice the hassle and headache.

The perfect length poles help us to automatically walk with a super straight back – better walking posture is biomechanically a good thing. This improved walking posture when combined with the unique 4-Wheel-Drive type action of walking with poles radically reduces the stress to the shins, knees, hips and back. Nordic Walking is low impact and yet provides a highly effective workout – burning more calories and working more muscle groups than regular walking.

Edwards has hosted Nordic Walking Clinics for expert skiers, sport teams, running clubs, walking clubs, individuals with balance issues, knee issues or new knees, hip issues or new hips, back issues (including those with rods in their back), weight issues, multiple sclerosis (MS), parkinson’s (PD), neuropathy, arthritis, bursitis, scoliosis, lumbar stenosis, fibromyalgia, post polio, osteoporosis, stroke recovery, cancer recovery and other limitations to walking. Nordic Walking poles are helping thousands of Americans get off the couch, successfully get outside, start walking safely and effectively launch much needed walking campaigns.

Don’t get scammed by cheap twist-lock and flip-lock pole from China. Please go to SKIWALKING.COM and the American Nordic Walking System for more information about Nordic Walking and the many health benefits of walking with poles. We offer 16 different lengths of quality SWIX and EXEL Nordic Walking Poles – not just 3 sizes or 6 sizes that can’t possibly provide the perfect length poles for individuals looking for the real deal in Nordic Walking Poles.

Walking with poles is the best!

Nordic Walking poles are helping thousands of Americans get off the couch, successfully get outside, start walking safely and walking effectively.

The improved balance, stability and gait that the correct length one-piece Nordic Walking Poles provide often sounds like magic, but it is just good physics and improved biomechanics. The key is using “perfect length” poles. Seniors and inviduals with balance issues are advised to use one-piece poles and avoid cheap/flimsy 2-piece and 3-piece twist-lock and flip-lock poles that tend to rattle, vibrate, freeze-up and/or collapse unexpectedly.

According to Nick Mahood, SWIX USA Nordic Walking Director, “Pete Edwards, owner/founder/coach of http://www.SkiWalking.com and the American Nordic Walking System, has single handedly introduced thousands of Americans to Nordic Walking through his free clinics. I have no doubt that Edwards is the #1 retailer of Nordic Walking Poles in the USA. You can quote me on that!”

Nordic Walking Poles Help Seniors Get Active at 2009 Senior EmPower Day

September 26, 2009
REAL Nordic Walking Poles From WWW.SKIWALKING.COM and the American Nordic Walking System

REAL Nordic Walking Poles From WWW.SKIWALKING.COM and the American Nordic Walking System

The 2009 Senior EmPower Day provided seniors from across Northern Michigan the opportunity to test drive real Nordic Walking Poles from SKIWALKING.COM and the American Nordic Walking System, hear from a variety of informative speakers and learn from other event sponsors and exhibitors.

Nordic Walking definitely helped to get event participants out walking – including those that utilize canes and walkers. The most enthusiastic group tested the poles for about one-mile. Many climbed the steep hill above the parking lot and everyone was shocked at how the poles made climbing hills easier. When Nordic Walking poles are sized correctly and the right technique is used, the biomechanics are such that balance, stability, posture and gait are radically improved. The perfect length poles also help to radically reduce the stress to the shins, knees, hips and back.

Here is what Mike told us after taking his new poles out for his first solo test drive: “Friday evening I walked nearly 2 miles with them WITHOUT PAIN! I was so, so pleased – just tickled me to death. Can’t say enough positive about them. Now I’m trying to find my pedometer, as I have made a covenant with myself regarding 10 miles per week. I am so looking forward to achieving it!”

Some of the participants commented that they had twist-locking poles at home and most reported problems with their twist-locking poles. They also commented on the comfort and effectiveness of the straps included with all of our SWIX and EXEL Nordic Walking Poles – patented by the Salomon Ski Company.

It is a hassle for me to travel with so many different sizes of quality one-piece poles, but they are safer, lighter and much more durable than cheap twist-lock and flip-lock poles from China. I have been receiving a record number of calls from Nordic Walking Instructors that report problems with their twist-lock poles and the embarrassment of trying to teach a class when their twist-locks don’t cooperate.

At SKIWALKING.COM and The American Nordic Walking System we carry 14 standard lengths of Nordic Walking Poles, plus we can do custom fitting for extra tall individuals – 6’ 7″ and above. One-piece poles prove to be safer, lighter and much more durable than cheap twist-lock or flip-lock adjustable length/telescoping/collapsible poles.

When looking for quality Nordic Walking Poles be sure to zero in on the correct length, look for poles with Salomon patented Nordic Walking Straps and avoid cheap twist-lock/flip-lock poles.

Walking with poles is the best!

Nordic Walking Poles Dominate The Grand Canyon And In The City

July 15, 2009
One-Piece Nordic Walking Poles Dominate At The Grand Canyon and In The City

One-Piece Nordic Walking Poles Dominate At The Grand Canyon and In The City

Sisters Cassidy and Chase Edwards prove again that one-piece Nordic Walking Poles that are sized correctly dominate the Grand Canyon as well as the city. They have successfully tested their one-piece Nordic Walking Poles in New York, the Sleeping Bear Dunes, up in the mountains, around town and the Grand Canyon

One-piece Nordic Walking Poles prove to be safer, lighter and much more durable than cheap twist-lock and flip-lock adjustable length/telescoping/collapsible poles. With the rubber Nordic Walking tips/paws on, the poles work great in the mall, on indoor/outdoor tracks, pavement and other hard surfaces. Remove the rubber tips and the durable carbide metal tips are ideal for trails, the beach, snow and ice.

Cheap twist-lock and flip-lock poles vibrate, rattle and can collapse unexpectedly.

Cassidy’s college ski coach has had her out on the trails hiking with poles when deprived of snow. She just graduated from Middlebury College and is a former junior national cross country ski champion and captain of her college ski team. The one-piece pole concept makes total sense to her.

Chase is a former Junior Olympic xc skier and graduated from Prescott College a few years back. Currently she is a professional mountain guide and outdoor educator. She knows first hand how valuable poles can be while hiking and trekking across the country. Her experience has proven to her that one-piece poles are hassle free and ideal for all ages and all fitness levels – for hiking, trekking and Nordic Walking in the city.

Over 8 million Europeans are walking with poles – in the cities, out in the country and up in the mountains. Nordic Walking poles are no longer just for expert skiers deprived of snow.

Nordic Walking’s winning combination of improved posture, a unique 4-Wheel-Drive type action and shock absorbing benefits – is helping many individuals to walk comfortably again. Nordic Walking poles are helping thousands of Americans successfully get outside, start walking safely and effectively launch much needed walking campaigns. Nordic Walking Poles can help to get us off the couch and get going again.

Real Nordic Walking Poles make walking more effective and duable in the Grand Canyon and in the city

Real Nordic Walking Poles make walking more effective and duable in the Grand Canyon and in the city

Nordic Walking Poles improve balance and stability – there is NO excuse to not get off the couch and start walking.

I use my Nordic Walking Poles everyday and teach lessons. My poles come in especially handy each spring during morel mushroom season. The poles are a lifesaver for my knees – especially while negotiating steep hills and ravines. My Nordic Walking poles also provide great traction even on slippery leaf covered slopes.

Our one-piece poles from the American Nordic Walking System and WWW.SKIWALKING.COM have a 100% customer satisfaction rating. They come with a 100% satisfaction guarantee, lifetime breakage guarantee and a perfect length guarantee.

Walking with poles is the best – in the city, in the country and even up in the mountains.

It is important to note that there are risks involved with any exercise program – including the use of one-piece Nordic Walking Poles. Just as in skiing, running, hiking and trekking there are unexpected obstacles, dangers and hazards. Always consult your doctor prior to launching any new fitness campaign. Free Nordic Walking Clinics Are coming to the Wexford Arena and Senior Expo in Cadillac, Michigan from 9 a.m. – 1 p.m. on Thursday, May 21st

The Senior Expo will feature a variety activities including Nordic Walking, plus exhibits from businesses and organizations with products and services geared for seniors.

Free Nordic Walking clinics will be hosted by Pete Edwards – owner/founder/coach of the American Nordic Walking System and WWW.SKIWALKING.COM Nordic Walking Poles. Nordic Walking poles are helping thousands of Americans get off the couch, successfully get outside, start walking safely and effectively.

Over seven million Europeans are Nordic Walking every day (all ages and all fitness levels) – in the cities, out in the country and up in the mountains. It is surprising that more Americans haven’t embraced this amazing new fitness activity that turbo charges the normal walking regimen. Not only does Nordic Walking burn up to 40% more calories than regular walking, it automatically improves walking posture and helps to reduce the stress to the shins, knees, hips and back. Utilizing the correct length poles encourages improved walking posture, while the poles and your arms absorb an impressive amount of the shock that would typically hit the shins, knees, hips and back. The American Nordic Walking System and WWW.SKIWALKING.COM offer 14 different poles lengths and also do free custom fitting for exceptionally tall or short individuals.

Five years ago Edwards launched WWW.SKIWALKING.COM and right away received hundreds of thank you emails and thank you cards from happy customers – including folks with bad/new knees, bad/new hips, back problems and balance issues. One lady called during the fall of 2004 and asked if the poles would help improve her balance problems stemming from an inner ear issue. Edwards told her he wasn’t sure, but did share with her several impressive success stories from folks with knee, hip and/or back problems. By using the correct length poles she was able to navigate even the roughest terrain with balance and security provided by the poles. She has been successfully using WWW.SKIWALKING.COM’s Swix VIP Nordic Walking Poles ever since.

Sounds like magic, but it is just good physics. The key is using “perfect length” poles.

Edwards recommends quality one-piece poles that won’t collapse unexpectedly. One-piece poles are safer, lighter and much more durable than cheap twist-locking adjustable length/telescoping/collapsible poles. Adjustable/telescoping/collapsible poles should NEVER be recommended for anyone with a balance issue or used by seniors. Hundreds of backpackers have tumbled when their telescoping poles unexpectedly collapsed.

According to Nick Mahood, SWIX USA Nordic Walking Director, “Pete Edwards, owner/founder/coach of WWW.SKIWALKING.COM and the American Nordic Walking System, has single handedly introduced thousands of Americans to Nordic Walking through his free clinics! I have no doubt that Edwards is the #1 retailer of Nordic Walking Poles in the USA! You can quote me on that!”

Edwards finds hosting Nordic Walking clinics extremely enjoyable and he especially enjoys hosting free Nordic Walking clinics for Weight Watchers and TOPS classes, plus multiple sclerosis (MS), Parkinson’s (PD) and Diabetes support groups.
