One-Piece Nordic Walking Poles Dominate At The Grand Canyon and In The City
Sisters Cassidy and Chase Edwards prove again that one-piece Nordic Walking Poles that are sized correctly dominate the Grand Canyon as well as the city. They have successfully tested their one-piece Nordic Walking Poles in New York, the Sleeping Bear Dunes, up in the mountains, around town and the Grand Canyon
One-piece Nordic Walking Poles prove to be safer, lighter and much more durable than cheap twist-lock and flip-lock adjustable length/telescoping/collapsible poles. With the rubber Nordic Walking tips/paws on, the poles work great in the mall, on indoor/outdoor tracks, pavement and other hard surfaces. Remove the rubber tips and the durable carbide metal tips are ideal for trails, the beach, snow and ice.
Cheap twist-lock and flip-lock poles vibrate, rattle and can collapse unexpectedly.
Cassidy’s college ski coach has had her out on the trails hiking with poles when deprived of snow. She just graduated from Middlebury College and is a former junior national cross country ski champion and captain of her college ski team. The one-piece pole concept makes total sense to her.
Chase is a former Junior Olympic xc skier and graduated from Prescott College a few years back. Currently she is a professional mountain guide and outdoor educator. She knows first hand how valuable poles can be while hiking and trekking across the country. Her experience has proven to her that one-piece poles are hassle free and ideal for all ages and all fitness levels – for hiking, trekking and Nordic Walking in the city.
Over 8 million Europeans are walking with poles – in the cities, out in the country and up in the mountains. Nordic Walking poles are no longer just for expert skiers deprived of snow.
Nordic Walking’s winning combination of improved posture, a unique 4-Wheel-Drive type action and shock absorbing benefits – is helping many individuals to walk comfortably again. Nordic Walking Poles are helping individuals with balance issues, knee issues or new knees, hip issues or new hips, back issues (including those with rods in their back), weight issues, multiple sclerosis (MS), parkinson’s (PD), neuropathy, arthritis, bursitis, scoliosis, lumbar stenosis, fibromyalgia, post polio, osteoporosis, stroke recovery, cancer recovery and other limitations to walking. Nordic Walking poles are helping thousands of Americans successfully get outside, start walking safely and effectively launch much needed walking campaigns. Nordic Walking Poles can help to get us off the couch and get going again.

Real Nordic Walking Poles make walking more effective and duable in the Grand Canyon and in the city
Nordic Walking Poles improve balance and stability – there is NO excuse to not get off the couch and start walking.
I use my Nordic Walking Poles everyday and teach lessons. My poles come in especially handy each spring during morel mushroom season. The poles are a lifesaver for my knees – especially while negotiating steep hills and ravines. My Nordic Walking poles also provide great traction even on slippery leaf covered slopes.
Our one-piece poles from the American Nordic Walking System and WWW.SKIWALKING.COM have a 100% customer satisfaction rating. They come with a 100% satisfaction guarantee, lifetime breakage guarantee and a perfect length guarantee.
Perfect length poles help us to automatically walk with a super straight back – better walking posture is biomechanically a good thing. This improved walking posture when combined with the unique 4-Wheel-Drive type action of walking with poles radically reduces the stress to the shins, knees, hips and back. Nordic Walking is low impact and yet provides a highly effective workout – burning more calories and working more muscle groups than regular walking.
Walking with poles is the best – in the city, in the country and even up in the mountains.
It is important to note that there are risks involved with any exercise program – including the use of one-piece Nordic Walking Poles. Just as in skiing, running, hiking and trekking there are unexpected obstacles, dangers and hazards. Always consult your doctor prior to launching any new fitness campaign. - Nordic Walking Poles Come In Handy While Hiking The Cross Country Ski Trails At The Carroll and Jane Rikert Ski Touring Center
Some of our favorite cross country ski trails in the USA are up at Middlebury College’s Nordic Center - adjacent to the college’s Bread Loaf Inn.
During the winter cross country skiers use one-piece ski poles hit the trails – groomed for both classic (diagonal) cross country skiing and skate (freestyle) cross country skiing. The poles for skating are longer than those for classic. The poles for Nordic Nordic Walking are shorter then classic poles – a lot shorter.
When using the perfect length Nordic Walking poles the poles help us to automatically walk with a super straight back – better walking posture is biomechanically a good thing. This improved walking posture when combined with the unique 4-Wheel-Drive type action of walking with poles radically reduces the stress to the shins, knees, hips and back. Nordic Walking is low impact and yet provides a highly effective workout – burning more calories and working more muscle groups than regular walking.
Cross country (Nordic) and downhill (Alpine) skiers know that one-piece poles are stronger, lighter and more durable than twist-locking adjustable length/telescoping/collapsible poles. Nordic Running (using Nordic Walking Poles while running) is tough on poles too and one-piece poles are the first choice for Nordic Running too. For Nordic Walking in the city or in extreme conditions, one-piece Nordic Walking Poles also prove to be far superior. Cheap twist-locking poles often rattle, vibrate and/or collapse unexpectedly. Seniors and individuals with balance issues should avoid cheap twist-locking poles. While testing one-piece poles in the Grand Canyon, the Green Mountains, on the Appalachian Trail, in the Rockies and in the Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore we have consistently found that our one-piece poles are hassle free. The feedback we consistently receive about one-piece poles –vs- twist-locking poles is consistent too – most individuals have trouble with their twist-locks (even with the twist-locking poles costing up to $200 per pair). I would NEVER consider using twist-locking poles while hosting free Nordic Walking Classes for Multiple Sclerosis (MS) and Parkinson’s (PD) support groups.
While off-road Nordic Walking we remove the rubber tips and expose the durable carbide metal tips of our SWIX and EXEL Nordic Walking Poles from SKIWALKING.COM and the American Nordic Walking System. When back on pavement we put the removable rubber tips (paws) back on. The rubber tips act as a shock absorber and silencer – eliminating the annoying clank of the metal tip on pavement.
Walking with poles is the best!

- Nordic Walking Poles Radically Improve Balance and Stability
Free Nordic Walking Clinics Are coming to the Wexford Arena and Senior Expo in Cadillac, Michigan from 9 a.m. – 1 p.m. on Thursday, May 21st
The Senior Expo will feature a variety activities including Nordic Walking, plus exhibits from businesses and organizations with products and services geared for seniors.
Free Nordic Walking clinics will be hosted by Pete Edwards – owner/founder/coach of the American Nordic Walking System and WWW.SKIWALKING.COM Nordic Walking Poles. Walking with poles provides a more effective workout than regular walking – basically turbo charging the average walking campaign. Free lessons and free use of real Nordic Walking poles will be provided. NO snow and NO skis required.
Nordic Walking is no longer just for athletes and expert skiers! ALL ages and ALL fitness levels can now unlock the calorie burning and aerobic benefits of Nordic Walking Poles. Athletes, seniors and even individuals with balance issues, joint issues and other challenges are finding success with our real Nordic Walking poles. Nordic Walking’s winning combination of improved posture, unique 4-Wheel-Drive type action and the shock absorbing benefits of the poles help many individuals to walk comfortably again – even those with balance issues, knee issues or new knees, hip issues or new hips, back issues (including those with rods in their back), weight issues, multiple sclerosis (MS), Parkinson’s (PD), neuropathy, arthritis, bursitis, diabetes, scoliosis, lumbar stenosis, fibromyalgia, post polio, osteoporosis, stroke recovery and other limitations to walking. Nordic Walking poles are helping thousands of Americans get off the couch, successfully get outside, start walking safely and effectively.
Over seven million Europeans are Nordic Walking every day (all ages and all fitness levels) – in the cities, out in the country and up in the mountains. It is surprising that more Americans haven’t embraced this amazing new fitness activity that turbo charges the normal walking regimen. Not only does Nordic Walking burn up to 40% more calories than regular walking, it automatically improves walking posture and helps to reduce the stress to the shins, knees, hips and back. Utilizing the correct length poles encourages improved walking posture, while the poles and your arms absorb an impressive amount of the shock that would typically hit the shins, knees, hips and back. The American Nordic Walking System and WWW.SKIWALKING.COM offer 14 different poles lengths and also do free custom fitting for exceptionally tall or short individuals.
Five years ago Edwards launched WWW.SKIWALKING.COM and right away received hundreds of thank you emails and thank you cards from happy customers – including folks with bad/new knees, bad/new hips, back problems and balance issues. One lady called during the fall of 2004 and asked if the poles would help improve her balance problems stemming from an inner ear issue. Edwards told her he wasn’t sure, but did share with her several impressive success stories from folks with knee, hip and/or back problems. By using the correct length poles she was able to navigate even the roughest terrain with balance and security provided by the poles. She has been successfully using WWW.SKIWALKING.COM’s Swix VIP Nordic Walking Poles ever since.
Sounds like magic, but it is just good physics. The key is using “perfect length” poles.
Edwards recommends quality one-piece poles that won’t collapse unexpectedly. One-piece poles are safer, lighter and much more durable than cheap twist-locking adjustable length/telescoping/collapsible poles. Adjustable/telescoping/collapsible poles should NEVER be recommended for anyone with a balance issue or used by seniors. Hundreds of backpackers have tumbled when their telescoping poles unexpectedly collapsed.
According to Nick Mahood, SWIX USA Nordic Walking Director, “Pete Edwards, owner/founder/coach of WWW.SKIWALKING.COM and the American Nordic Walking System, has single handedly introduced thousands of Americans to Nordic Walking through his free clinics! I have no doubt that Edwards is the #1 retailer of Nordic Walking Poles in the USA! You can quote me on that!”
Edwards finds hosting Nordic Walking clinics extremely enjoyable and he especially enjoys hosting free Nordic Walking clinics for Weight Watchers and TOPS classes, plus multiple sclerosis (MS), Parkinson’s (PD) and Diabetes support groups.

Real Nordic Walking Poles Prove Successful During Nordic Walking Clinics At Fitness Center - Ideal For ALL Ages And ALL Fitness Levels!
Free Nordic Walking Clinics and a Nordic Walking Seminar are coming to the Natural Health and Wellness Expo on Saturday, May 9th at the Traverse City, Michigan, Civic Center. Real Nordic Walking Poles will also be available to demo and for purchase. Participants to the 2009 Natural Health and Wellness Expo will be treated to a wonderful day of delicious organic and local foods, alternative health services, natural health products and more, in addition to the Nordic Walking action.
Instruction will be provided by Pete Edwards – owner/founder/coach of WWW.SKIWALKING.COM and The American Nordic Walking System. At 10:30am Edwards will be one of the Expo’s featured presenters and his topic: “Walk your Way to Better Health with Nordic Ski Walking.” Following Edwards’ presentation he will be hosting free private and group Nordic Walking lessons up until 5 p.m.
The Traverse City Civic Center is an ideal location for Nordic Walking. With the rubber tips/paws on the ends of the poles they can be safely and effectively used indoors at the Civic Center or outside on the paved hiking trail. The rubber tips are ideal for hard surfaces like pavement, sidewalks, indoor/outdoor tracks and even in the mall. When the rubber tips are pulled off the metal tip is exposed and then the poles are ready to go off road, dirt roads, trails, the beach, snow and ice.
All of Edwards’ poles are equipped with real Nordic Walking straps – patented by the Salomon Ski Company. The fingerless glove type straps eliminate the need to grip the poles and yet transfer power and push-off into the cradle of the straps. These same straps have helped to revolutionize cross country skiing.
Nordic Walking correctly can burn up to 40% more calories than regular walking. The poles help to provide all the benefits of cross country skiing, but no skis and no snow are required.
Walking with the correct length poles radically reduces the stress to the shins, knees, hips and back. Using the correct length poles automatically encourages walking with a straighter back and better posture – biomechanicaly a very good thing.
The poles also help to radically improve balance and stability. Nordic Walking’s winning combination of improved posture, a unique 4-Wheel-Drive type action and shock absorbing benefits – helping many individuals to walk comfortably again.
